Mary Geiger

Performing with three major European companies, touring three continents, Mary Celeste Geiger danced professionally for over ten years, culminating as Principal Dancer with The Royal Ballet of Flanders in Antwerp, Belgium.  Her professional career also included time with Scapino Ballet in Amsterdam, and the Grand Theatre Geneve in Geneva, Switzerland.  As Principal Dancer she performed Balanchine’s Concerto Barocco and Allegro Brilliante, classical roles including the Queen of the Willies in Giselle, as well as contemporary roles such as Carmina Burana, and La Peri which was created specifically for her by prolific and popular ballet choreographer John Butler

Growing up in the Detroit area, Mrs.Geiger studied under the tutelage of Detroit ballet icon Sandra Severo.  She danced extensively with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in annual productions of The Nutcracker, and the Kresge Concert Series.  Mrs. Geiger received the American Ballet Ford Foundation Scholarship at the age of 12.  At 19 she was awarded multiple scholarships, including theAmerican Ballet Theatre (ABT) School in New York City, the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the John Cranko School in Stuttgart, Germany, which she attended.

Celebrating the 30th year of Geiger Ballet, Mary Geiger is Director of Geiger Ballet founded 1985.  She has been Artistic Director of the Michigan Classic Ballet Company since its inception in 1989.  Respected nationally and internationally, Mrs. Geiger, is currently Vice-President, and former President, of Regional Dance America (RDA), and served 7 years as President of the RDA MidStates Division.  She has instructed master classes in Switzerland, and France at the Nyon Ballet School and Ballet Vesoul, as well throughout the United States, including California, Washington, Louisiana, Georgia and Tennessee. Within Michigan she has served as master instructor for dance programs at Interlochen Dance Academy, in Traverse City and Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo.

Mrs. Geiger is accredited in the Russian Teaching Method developed by Jurgen Schneider, Ballet Master, American Ballet Theatre and Professor Eugene Mills, Western Michigan University.
